The University Charter Trail Blazers will head out to square off against the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Monday, University Charter made easy work of Hatch and carried off a 20-1 win.
University Charter got a massive performance out of Bailey Bolden, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, Bolden posted two hits, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Jayvia Landrum also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
University Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Tuscaloosa Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Tigers.
Lilly Crane was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Johnson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
University Charter is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Tuscaloosa Academy, their record is now 10-4.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. University Charter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. However, it's not like Tuscaloosa Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went University Charter's way against Tuscaloosa Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as University Charter made off with a 13-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trail Blazers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
