The East Lyme Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Guilford Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, East Lyme took a serious blow against Killingly, falling 64-35. East Lyme was down 57-28 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Meanwhile, Guilford put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 56-7 victory over East Haven at home. With Guilford ahead 49-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Tyler Hilgert got back to being his usual excellent self, as he threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Hilgert hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games. Guilford also got help from Trevor Ridley who showed off his sure hands for 100 receiving yards.
Another reason for the win was Guilford's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Kevin Smith and his two sacks.
East Lyme's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-3. As for Guilford, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.
East Lyme might still be hurting after the 34-12 loss they got from Guilford in their previous meeting back in October of 2021. Thankfully for East Lyme, Michael O'brien (who rushed for 277 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
