Central Valley Christian is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will face off against the Kerman Lions at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Central Valley Christian put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They really took it to Mission College Prep for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-7 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cavaliers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 164th, while the Royals are ranked 421st).
Ja'Khari Burrell had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 157 yards and two scores on only eight carries. Another player making a difference was Nathan Peters, who threw for 217 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Central Valley Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 282 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Kerman over Dos Palos in every quarter on their way to victory last Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Lions blew the Broncos out of the water with a 42-9 final score. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 33 points or more this season.
Kerman's win came from a few key players Central Valley Christian will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Adrian Torres, who threw for 218 yards and three TDs, and also punched in one score on the ground. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Jorge Antunez was in the mix as well, providing Kerman with two touchdowns.
The win made it two in a row for Kerman and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.5 points over those games. As for Central Valley Christian, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Central Valley Christian came up short against Kerman in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 17-12. Thankfully for the Cavaliers, Julien Velez (who rushed for 113 yards and a pair of TDs) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
