With a playoff game on the line, the Mayfair Monsoons rose to the challenge on Friday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 39-38 win over Village Christian. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Mayfair's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jeremiah Calvin led the charge by throwing for 231 yards and four touchdowns. Louis Johnson was another key contributor, rushing for 145 yards and a touchdown.
When it comes to explaining why Village Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zavontae Flournoy-Trice. Despite the final result, he rushed for 242 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Chase Everett, who threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns.
The victory makes it two in a row for Mayfair and bumps their season record up to 9-3. As for Village Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
Mayfair will stay at home for another week and welcome Chino at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Chino has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 408 points over their last ten matchups. Village Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
