Everything went their way against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop as St. Mary's made off with a 88-64 win. Given St. Mary's advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop is ranked 282nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Mary's was led to victory by Brandon Schmitz and Will Walter. Schmitz went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 23 points and 4 assists, while Walter scored 29 points along with six rebounds. Walter is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last ten games he's played. Jon Petermann was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten assists.
St. Mary's is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
St. Mary's will be playing at home against New Ulm Cathedral at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully New Ulm Cathedral focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday. As for Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, they will head out on the road to face off against Wabasso at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wabasso is on a three-game streak of home losses, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
