The Piedmont Classical Bobcats will head out on the road to challenge the Bishop McGuinness Villains at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Piedmont Classical comes in on four and Bishop McGuinness on six.
Piedmont Classical proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 24) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Morehead 48-45.
Piedmont Classical got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ge'Kayla Goins out in front who scored 14 points along with seven steals. Goins hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Keniya Waring, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Bishop McGuinness meant business on Thursday, getting buckets from all over the court against a Red Raiders squad that has allowed just 28.6 points per contest. Bishop McGuinness enjoyed a cozy 58-40 win over T.W. Andrews.
Bishop McGuinness can attribute much of their success to Emma Wagoner, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Adelaide Jernigan, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wagoner has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Sullivan, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and seven steals.
Piedmont Classical has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. As for Bishop McGuinness, their victory bumped their record up to 19-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Piedmont Classical have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Bishop McGuinness struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Piedmont Classical was taken down by Bishop McGuinness 57-16 in their previous matchup back in January. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Piedmont Classical was down 43-9.
