Even though the Ariton Purple Cats have not done well against the Barbour County Jaguars recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Ariton walked away with a 57-50 win over the Jaguars. Given Ariton's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while the Jaguars are ranked 359th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ariton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lawson Leger, who scored 16 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Matthew McNair, who scored 16 points.
Ariton is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Barbour County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-20.
Ariton won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive. Barbour County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
