In what's become a running theme this season, the Cape Hatteras Hurricanes gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They really took it to Mattamuskeet for the full four quarters, racking up a 59-15 victory on the road. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Cape Hatteras had established a 35 point advantage.
Cape Hatteras' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Abby O'Neal led the charge by scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Kylie Philips, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Cape Hatteras pushed their record up to 12-7 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Mattamuskeet, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cape Hatteras will face off against Ocracoke at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Mattamuskeet, they will head out on the road to square off against Columbia at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mattamuskeet comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
