Volleyball Game Preview: South Newton Rebels vs. Faith Christian Eagles

After both having extra time off, the South Newton Rebels and the Faith Christian Eagles will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with South Newton sitting on eight straight victories and Faith Christian on four.

South Newton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Marquette Catholic, sneaking past 3-2.

Briley Iseminger and Livia Kollman were among the main playmakers for South Newton as the former had 26 digs and seven assists and the latter had 13 digs. That's the most digs Iseminger has posted since back in August.

South Newton was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least nine aces in eight consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Faith Christian made easy work of Monroe Central on Saturday and carried off a 3-0 win.

South Newton better keep an eye on Kelsey Olehy. She was instrumental in Faith Christian's win, getting 17 assists and ten digs. Olehy has been hot for a while, having posted 12 or more assists the last 12 times she's played.

Faith Christian's victory bumped their record up to 29-4. As for South Newton, their win bumped their record up to 21-10.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: South Newton has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 10.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Faith Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 12.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

South Newton couldn't quite get it done against Faith Christian in their previous matchup back in September as they fell 3-1. Can the Rebels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
