Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only St. Rita walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Batavia Bulldogs on Saturday as they made off with a 54-34 win. The victory was nothing new for the Mustangs as they're now sitting on seven straight.
Steven Armbruster was nothing short of spectacular: he threw for 239 yards and four TDs while picking up 12.0 yards per attempt, and also punched in one rushing score. Those four passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Walter Jones also helped with two scores in total.
Batavia lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Michael Vander Luitgaren, who threw for 295 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 48 yards. Brett Berggren was another key player, picking up 155 receiving yards and one TD.
St. Rita's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Batavia, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-3.
Coming up, St. Rita will challenge Brother Rice at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Crusaders' defense has only allowed 10.6 points per game this season, so the Mustangs' offense will have their work cut out for them. Batavia does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
