Cardinal Gibbons has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Leesville Road Pride at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cardinal Gibbons focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
Cardinal Gibbons scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They breezed by Enloe at home to the tune of 69-23. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 48-14.
Cardinal Gibbons got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tessa Gladieux out in front who scored 12 points along with five assists and five steals. Gladieux is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kathryn Vanburik, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Leesville Road earned a 50-38 win over Broughton on Tuesday. Given Leesville Road's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Broughton is ranked 301st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leesville Road found their leader in underclassman Chloe Fulk, who scored 16 points along with three steals and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fulk has scored all season. Peyton Moye was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Cardinal Gibbons now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Leesville Road, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2.
Cardinal Gibbons strolled past Leesville Road when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 65-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cardinal Gibbons since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
