Basketball Recap: Kaila Patterson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Longmont over Evergreen

After flying high against Montbello last Monday, Longmont came back down to earth. The Longmont Trojans lost to the Evergreen Cougars at home by a 53-39 margin on Thursday. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 32-28 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Longmont's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaila Patterson, who posted 16 points. Patterson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emory Klish, who earned six points.

Evergreen's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Addie McEvers led the charge by going 9 of 16 on her way to 20 points along with seven boards and six steals. The dominant performance also gave McEvers a new career-high in assists (five). Elle Buenning was another key player, going 9 for 15 on her way to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Longmont dropped their record down to 2-4 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Evergreen, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Longmont wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 45-32 defeat against Bear Creek on the 20th. As for Evergreen, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 43-21 loss against Thompson Valley on the 20th.
