Sunlake extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 4-7. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls. The Seahawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulls earlier this season, when they won 10-2.
Sunlake got a good showing from Cameron Nunez, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, Nunez gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2025.
On the hitting side, Jake Santana made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Alex Soto was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
As for Wiregrass Ranch, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since February 11th.
On Wiregrass Ranch's side, KJ Cain was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Castro, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Looking ahead, Sunlake will look to defend their home field on Friday against Land O' Lakes at 7:00 p.m. The Gators will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Seahawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Wiregrass Ranch, they will head out on the road to take on Wesley Chapel at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
