South Panola (Batesville, Miss.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 40-21 win over
Olive Branch (Miss.).
In the first quarter, the Tigers put up 20 points. South Panola scored on a touchdown catch by
L.j. Carr, a
Rip Kirk touchdown pass to
Reginald Morris and a touchdown run by
Darrell Henderson.
After taking the lead on a touchdown catch by Carr in the first quarter, SP led 26-14 at the half.
The Batesville school expanded its lead to 26 points entering the fourth quarter. The Tigers scored three times in the third, including once on a Henderson touchdown run.
The Conquistadors came in surrendering 15.3 points per game this season. Olive Branch struggled against South Panola's offense, which entered the game scoring 29.3 points per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Olive Branch, which notched a 49-12 victory over Southaven in its previous outing. The loss ended Olive Branch's two-game winning streak.
South Panola (6-1) goes up against Hernando in a 6A Region 1 game matchup next week, while Olive Branch (5-2) locks horns with DeSoto Central also in a 6A Region 1 game.
