South Central hasn't had much luck against Calvert recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Trojans are taking a road trip to take on the Senecas at 11:00 a.m.
While South Central is heading in to the matchup without a victory, things might be looking up considering their last game was the closest they've come to getting one. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Plymouth. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Trojans have suffered since April 9, 2024.
Ember Phillips made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Calvert had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 12-2 win. While the Senecas didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Addison King was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Calvert got a massive performance out of Ava Eilrich, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Alyssa Rishty was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Calvert hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Calvert's record is now 7-1. As for South Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
South Central couldn't quite get it done against Calvert when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
