Football Recap: Hughson Skates Past Pioneer with Ease

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Hughson had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 49-6 win over the Pioneer Patriots. The Huskies' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Hughson's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hudson Baldwin, who threw for 219 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Titus Beers, who picked up 121 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Hughson's run defense was locked in: Pioneer could only muster 0.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Beers for the heroic effort on defense: he. Hughson's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 5.05 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 7.13 on average over their last five games.

Hughson's defense didn't let Jordan Constancio, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Valente Soria and Tristan Benham, who each picked up 1.5 sacks apiece. Another thorn in Pioneer's side was Soria, who picked up 1.5 sacks and made nine total tackles (4.0 for loss).

The win (which was Hughson's third in a row) raised their record to 9-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.7 points over those games. As for Pioneer, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.

Looking ahead, Hughson will face off against Roseville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least 31 points in their last four games. Pioneer does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
