Midway extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping them down to 2-9. They lost 20-4 to the Santa Fe Chiefs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chiefs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-5 back in March.
Midway saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Lewis, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Santa Fe, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-7-1. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Santa Fe's side, JoHanna Breshears and Tatum Fitzwater made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Breshears tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Fitzwater struck out 14 batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. At the plate, Breshears went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Fitzwater went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Santa Fe let Keastin Kitchen and Brooke Dierking run wild. Kitchen got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Dierking got on base in five of her six plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Kitchen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Audrey Finkeldi, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Midway will head out to challenge Liberal at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Santa Fe, they will venture away from home to take on Lone Jack at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
