The Mammoth Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Immanuel Christian 38-34. Mammoth lost against Immanuel Christian in their previous head to head back in December of 2018, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 40-32 score last time.
Despite the loss, Mammoth still got an impressive performance from Nicole Smyth, who scored 18 points along with five steals. Smyth is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Esme Carrillo was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five steals.
Katheryn Galvez was the offensive standout of the match as she scored 11 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Immanuel Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Ava Blakie, who scored seven points.
Mammoth has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Immanuel Christian, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mammoth will take on California City at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. California City is on a three-game streak of home losses, Mammoth a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. As for Immanuel Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Lone Pine at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Lone Pine is ranked 906th, while Immanuel Christian is ranked 884th).
