5A Region 2 recap September 4, 2013
Vicksburg scaled the state rankings by moving to 93 from 147 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region 2. The Gators were able to make move up by defeating South Delta 34-0.
Callaway was the team made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from sixth to third in the league. The Chargers defeated Warren Central 27-14 earlier in the week.
Parker Lohman provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Ridgeland lost to Clinton. He completed 17 passes for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 83 yards. Lohman's favorite target this week was Xavier Marion, who caught 10 passes for 119 yards.
Marion was the best wideout in the league this week as the Titans lost to the Arrows. Isaiah Johnson helped Ridgeland's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 30 yards.
Pat Burrage was the best running back in 5A Region 2 this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 150 yards as Neshoba Central fell to Clinton. Kavonte Mccarty also contributed to the rushing game with 15 yards on the ground.
Chris Mitchell put up the best numbers in passing as Callaway beat the Vikings. He finished with a total of 14 completions for 187 yards and 2 touchdowns. Mitchell's favorite target this week was Dayall Harris, who caught 6 passes for 72 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Kenny Burton's team's Lohman and Marion have proven to be a lethal combination. Lohman has thrown for 327 yards this season, while Marion, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 19 catches for 221 yards. Burrage from the Rockets leads the league in rushing with 220 yards.
Germantown took down Yazoo County 38-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Chester Lewis ran for 75 yards in the win.
