The Limestone Rockets will head out to face off against the Peoria Notre Dame Irish at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Limestone put up the most points they have all season on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-6 margin over Richwoods. The Rockets haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
BRIANNA BIRKETT was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with six RBI, one triple, and one run. Those RBI were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of ALLISON MEHN, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Limestone always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Peoria Notre Dame made easy work of Eureka on Tuesday and carried off an 11-3 win. The game marked the Irish's most dominant victory of the season so far.
Lexie Dallinger-Eaker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Lauren Leustek was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Ella Tady was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
The win got Peoria Notre Dame back to even at 3-3. As for Limestone, the victory also got them back to even at 3-3.
Peoria Notre Dame's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Limestone has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. It's a different story for Peoria Notre Dame, though, as they've only averaged .349. Will they be able to contain Limestone's hitters?
Limestone couldn't quite get it done against Peoria Notre Dame when the teams last played back in March of 2019 as they fell 6-2. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
