After a string of 11 wins, West Craven's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars by a score of 51-48. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

SouthWest Edgecombe found their leader in sophomore Kdeidria Collins, who went 10 of 24 on her way to 23 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Collins' evening made it 12 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Aaliyah Whitehead was another key player, putting up 12 points and four steals.

West Craven's loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-3. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-1.

West Craven and SouthWest Edgecombe should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. West Craven (ranked 122nd) will meet Farmville Central (ranked 369th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Craven will be looking to keep their 11-game home win streak dating back to last season alive. Similarly, SouthWest Edgecombe will square off against North Pitt at 6:00 p.m. on Friday up 207 places (81 vs. 288).
