The Pinole Valley Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 74-67 to Lodi. While losing is never fun, Pinole Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 499th, while Lodi is ranked 189th).
Pinole Valley's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaylin Reed, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, and Romyn Waugh who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. Waugh also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Chriseanie Nealy was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five assists.
Even though they lost, Pinole Valley were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Pinole Valley has fallen quite a ways from their 28-7 record last season and are now at 2-4. As for Lodi, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Pinole Valley and Stagg will face off at 1:30 p.m. on December 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Stagg is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Lodi, they will head out on the road to face off against Manteca at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
