3A/2A Conference 3 recap October 8, 2013
South Point added to the longest winning streak in 3A/2A Conference 3 this week by beating Huss, 28-27. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
East Gaston scaled the state rankings by moving to 287 from 325 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Warriors were able to move up by topping Lake Norman Charter 33-7.
Logan Bradley threw for 279 yards and 6 touchdowns. He went 19-26 with 0 interceptions.
Tyler Bray was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 29 carries, he ran for 170 yards as South Point defeated Bessemer City. Jaquan Brooks also contributed to the rushing game with 90 yards on the ground.
The Jaguars' Bradley and Armstrong have formed a dream team this season, leading 3A/2A Conference 3 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-4 quarterback Bradley has thrown for 1,397 yards this season, while Armstrong has 39 catches for 605 yards. Bray from Mickey Lineberger's team leads the league in rushing with 939 yards.
Bray of the the Red Raiders is only 61 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 131 carries Bray has put up 939 yards this year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when North Gaston takes on Forestview. At the moment, the Wildcats are in second, while Chris Medlin's team is in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when South Point takes on the Green Wave. The Red Raiders have allowed 115 points this season, while Ashbrook has given up 103. South Point allowed 27 points last week as it topped the Huskies.
The Jaguars took down the Yellowjackets 66-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Bradley ran for 23 yards during the win.
