Pendleton County had lost four straight, but after bumping their record up to 11-14 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top against the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs by a score of 8-3. This was a revenge game for the Wildcat: when they faced off against the Bulldogs back in April, they had to take a 3-2 loss.
Chase Owens made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has become a key player for Pendleton County: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least ten strikeouts, but 9-13 otherwise. Owens was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Travis Owens, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Pendleton County is 3-1 when Owens posts two or more stolen bases, but 8-13 otherwise. Jaxon Simon was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Pendleton County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
As for Tygarts Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-13 record this season. Bulldogs fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Pendleton County since Monday.
On Tygarts Valley's side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Preston Smith, who went 1-for-4 with one run.
Coming up, Pendleton County will face off against Elkins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Tygarts Valley, they will head out on the road to square off against Philip Barbour at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Colts have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
