The Grand Island Islanders scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 62-34 win over North Platte. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Grand Island has managed all season.
Mukadi Mukoma was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points. That makes it seven consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Grand Island's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan McDonald, who scored eight points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why North Platte lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lance Gifford. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Gifford hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Landon O'brien was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
The win makes it two in a row for Grand Island and bumps their season record up to 3-4. As for North Platte, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Grand Island will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Kearney at 7:45 p.m. on January 4, 2024. North Platte's road trip will continue as they head out to face Columbus at 6:45 p.m. on December 21st. Columbus is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
