The Pinole Valley Spartans's game on Friday was all tied up 32-32 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell to Saint Mary 65-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Pinole Valley saw an underclassman step up: Romyn Waugh dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Waugh is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Chriseanie Nealy was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Pinole Valley has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-15 record this season. As for Saint Mary's, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-11.
Pinole Valley will face off against the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Saint Mary's, they will look to defend their home court against the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Pinole Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully the Panthers like a good challenge.
