Whitko is 9-1 against Prairie Heights since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Wildcats will welcome the Panthers at 10:00 a.m. Whitko hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Whitko and Peru have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Wednesday. The Wildcats lost 10-0 to the Tigers.
Whitko saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Crew Ebbinghouse, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Prairie Heights hadn't beaten Fremont on the road since April 27, 2023 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Eagles. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Joel Graber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, Lakyn Duke was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Max Brodock also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Prairie Heights' win bumped their record up to 5-14. As for Whitko, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.
Prairie Heights' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Whitko has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. It's a different story for Prairie Heights, though, as they've only averaged .335. Will they be able to contain Whitko's hitters?
Whitko was able to grind out a solid victory over Prairie Heights when the teams last played back in May of 2025, winning 6-1. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
