The New Covenant Gryphons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 33 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Fuqua 82-32 on the road. The win was just business as usual for New Covenant, who after seven games remain undefeated this season.
New Covenant's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Douglas Powell led the charge by scoring 19 points along with eight rebounds. The match was Powell's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Rusty Hooks, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aidyn Kelly, who scored five points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kelly has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Minix, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Fuqua struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
New Covenant pushed their record up to 7-0 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points per game. As for Fuqua, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Covenant will challenge Temple Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fuqua will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Amelia Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Hopefully Amelia Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Tuesday.
