Kyler Matthews made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Edge Bryant, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kasen Rogers, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Kingman never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Highland Prep as they made off with a 16-0 victory. With that win, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Like Snowflake, Kingman also got a great game from a two-way player: Cash Collins. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Collins was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Canton Collins and Codey Padilla did most of the damage at the plate: Canton went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base, while Padilla went a perfect 2-for-2 with six stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Kingman is undefeated when Padilla posts two or more runs, but 9-10 otherwise.
Kingman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Snowflake's victory bumped their record up to 14-7-1. As for Kingman, their win bumped their record up to 13-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Snowflake has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Kingman struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Snowflake beat Kingman 8-4 when the teams last played back in March of 2021. Will the Lobos repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
