The Capital Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Twin Falls Bruins at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Capital is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.4 runs per game this season.
Capital is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Middleton, who was ranked fourth at the time (Capital was ranked sixth). Capital sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over Middleton on Wednesday.
Juel Cavesuela spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, McKenna Chavez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two doubles, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Audrey McKibben was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Twin Falls didn't have quite enough to beat La Grande on Saturday and fell 16-15. That's two games in a row now that the Bruins have lost by just one run.
Libby Torgrimson led a balanced group of hitters, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Olivia Thompson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Even though they lost, Twin Falls was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
This is the second loss in a row for Twin Falls and nudges their season record down to 3-7. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Capital, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Capital hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Twin Falls struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Capital's way against Twin Falls in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, as Capital made off with an 8-2 victory. Does Capital have another victory up their sleeve, or will Twin Falls turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
