Greene County is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with a 9-4 win over Citronelle on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for Greene County in their matchups with Citronelle: they've now won five in a row.
Eli Herring was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Brody Jones was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Those runs were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Landon Green, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for George County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Perry Central get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Friday. That looming 12-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Rebels yet this season.
Like Greene County, George County also got a great game from a two-way player: Tripp Lightsey. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Lightsey was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ben Davis, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
George County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .733. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
George County pushed their record up to 3-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster.
