Basketball Recap: Corona Extends Winning Streak to Six

Corona had won five straight games and Alex Flores did her part to make it six on Monday. The Panthers came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 45-40 W against the Palm Desert Aztecs for which the team can thank Flores, who went 8-for-20 to rack up 23 points in addition to seven boards and three blocks. The matchup was her third in a row with at least 23 points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Acosta, who posted three points and three steals. Acosta is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Palm Desert's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Katelyn Gallagher, who put up 13 points and six steals. Naomi Plunkett also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Corona's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Palm Desert, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, Corona will challenge Elsinore at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Palm Desert, they will take on Twentynine Palms at 5:30 p.m. on the 9th.
