The Highlands Ranch Falcons''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 48-8 loss at the hands of Mountain Vista. Highlands Ranch has struggled against Mountain Vista recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Highlands Ranch still got an impressive performance from Jack Kearns, who picked up 107 receiving yards and a touchdown.
It was another big night for Austyn Modrzewski, who threw for 254 yards and five touchdowns while completing 82.6% of his passes. Modrzewski hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for eight straight games. CJ Reese did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 80 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Highlands Ranch's loss was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 11-2 ThunderRidge and 11-3 Valor Christian (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 76.3% over those games). As for Mountain Vista, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highlands Ranch will face off against Castle View at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Castle View presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Highlands Ranch in Colorado (Castle View is ranked 14th, while Highlands Ranch is ranked 72nd). As for Mountain Vista, they will head out on the road to face off against Valor Christian at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Valor Christian is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
