After seven games on the road, San Clemente is heading back home. They will take on the Capistrano Valley Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully San Clemente is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Capistrano Valley in California (San Clemente is ranked 63rd, while Capistrano Valley is ranked 268th).
Last Friday, San Clemente beat Tesoro 48-39.
San Clemente's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Will Whidden led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Whidden hasn't dropped below two blocks for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Tolliver, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
While Capistrano Valley couldn't quite beat San Juan Hills on Wednesday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 21-point defeat they were dealt on Friday. Capistrano Valley fell just short of San Juan Hills by a score of 45-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Capistrano Valley has suffered since November 22, 2023.
San Clemente's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.5 points per game. As for Capistrano Valley, they now have a losing record at 11-12.
San Clemente came up short against Capistrano Valley in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 61-52. Can San Clemente avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
