Softball Recap: Central City Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Kearney Catholic, Central City was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand NEN a 12-0 shutout. The Bison might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Payton Burbach made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in September of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Journi Schindler, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Addie Burbach was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Central City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as NEN only posted a batting average of .000.

Central City pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for NEN, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Central City will challenge rival Malcolm at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, NEN is set to face off against their familiar foe Pierce at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
