Newport Harbor is 0-10 against Edison since April of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Newport Harbor Sailors will take on the Edison Chargers at 3:15 p.m. Newport Harbor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Newport Harbor was handed a seven-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Northwood. While the Sailors didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Virginia Peterson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Newport Harbor's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sienna Schneider, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Cora Jordan was another, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Newport Harbor hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Edison's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marina on Tuesday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Chargers were not able to get on the board.
Edison also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Elina Garcia gave up three earned runs on ten hits. Those hits were Garcia's first of the season.
Newport Harbor's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Edison, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
Edison's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Newport Harbor has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Edison, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 strikeouts. Will Newport Harbor keep running through batters, or will Edison buck the trend?
Newport Harbor came up short against Edison when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 5-2. Can Newport Harbor avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
