Santa Cruz Valley and Tempe Prep are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2023, but likely not for long. The Dust Devils will be playing at home against the Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Cruz Valley is coming into the game hot, having won their last 11 games.
On Monday, Santa Cruz Valley needed a bit of extra time to put away Phoenix Country Day. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Eagles.
Richard Reyes was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2025. Lopez Zeke was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tempe Prep). Everything went their way against Arete Prep on Friday as they made off with a 26-1 win. The Knights have beaten the CHARGERS the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the CHARGERS has come to flipping the script.
Derek Vujtech made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Tempe Prep let Will Drescher and Josh Norton, Jr. run wild. Drescher got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Norton, Jr. got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That triple was Drescher's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Rotner, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four RBI and two runs.
Tempe Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .696. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Santa Cruz Valley's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Tempe Prep, their win bumped their record up to 3-7.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Santa Cruz Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .538. However, it's not like Tempe Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .478. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Santa Cruz Valley got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2025 against Tempe Prep by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Dust Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
