It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but The Jonesboro Cardinals ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They snuck past Lovejoy with a 36-30 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Jonesboro.
Jonesboro got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jamon Jones out in front who threw for 307 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt. Montez Redding was another key contributor, picking up 143 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Jonesboro's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Jaylon Cross and justen hill who racked up five sacks between them.
Jonesboro's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Lovejoy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jonesboro will challenge Glynn Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Glynn Academy is on a four-game streak of home wins, Jonesboro a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. As for Lovejoy, they will head out on the road to face off against Effingham County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Effingham County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 235 points over their last six matchups.
