There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. Part of the action? A towering 123-point combined score for Liberty Hill and Pflugerville Connally.
Can't Touch This
Round Rock's 67 - 41 win over McNeil last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Ryan O'keefe. O'keefe ran for 238 yards and also punched in five touchdowns. That performance landed O'keefe among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Vandegrift (3rd in the power rankings) and Hendrickson (5th). Vandegrift was able to grind out a solid victory over Hendrickson, winning 29 - 20. The triumph raised Vandegrift up two spots in the power rankings.
No Stoppin 'Em
It isn't too difficult to come out on top when you enjoy a 141-yard edge over your opponent, and Liberty Hill had just that last week. It put the hurt on Pflugerville Connally with a conclusive 89 - 34 victory. Senior Shane Gonzalez was a big part of the win as his strong performance led the charge (he rushed for 112 yards and four touchdowns). At 123 total points, this was the highest scoring power ranking game of the week.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Hays (11th in the power rankings) and Bowie (6th). Both teams are rolling into the game after last-week wins. Given their high-scoring efforts against their previous opponents, we'll see how far they can run the score up this week.
