After a string of four wins, the McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 57-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Portal. McIntosh County Academy has not had much luck with Portal recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite the loss, McIntosh County Academy had strong showings from Brandon Johnson, who scored 20 points, and Mj Quarterman, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Johnson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrick Irons, who scored five points along with two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Portal to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kj Hunter, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hunter scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Amir Jackson, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
McIntosh County Academy's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5. As for Portal, their win was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1.
McIntosh County Academy will take on Savannah Classical Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Portal, they will head out on the road to face off against Jenkins County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Jenkins County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 188th, while Portal is ranked 33rd).
