Basketball Recap: Heights Makes It Three in a Row at Home

Heights extended their home winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from Mira Johnson. The Heights Bulldogs managed a 53-49 victory over the Lamar Texans on Friday thanks in part to Johnson, who went 7 for 10 from beyond the arc on her way to 29 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2023.

The team also got some help courtesy of Jazmyne Gilbert, who posted 16 points along with seven assists and six boards. She has been hot, having also posted four or more steals the last five times she's played.

When it comes to explaining why Lamar lost, don't look at Phoenix Sneed. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 40.8% of Lamar's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Brooke Mansour was another key player, putting up six points and four steals.

Heights is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-11 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points per game. As for Lamar, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Heights will head out to take on Bellaire at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lamar, they will host Cesar E. Chavez at 10:00 a.m. on December 21st.
