The Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles are on the road again on Wednesday and play against the Kapaun Mt. Carmel Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. on December 20th. Hopefully Bishop Carroll focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
Bishop Carroll fought the good fight in their overtime match against Junction City but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 55-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bluejays. While losing is never fun, Bishop Carroll can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while Junction City is ranked 17th).
Despite their loss, Bishop Carroll saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Braxton Martin, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was John Hauserman, who scored 13 points along with five assists and three steals.
Even though they lost, Bishop Carroll were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Kapaun Mt. Carmel put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by a 67-45 margin over Washburn Rural. Considering Kapaun Mt. Carmel has won four matchups by more than 21 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Bishop Carroll's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Kapaun Mt. Carmel, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with that victory, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Bishop Carroll suffered a grim 74-48 defeat to Kapaun Mt. Carmel in their previous matchup back in February. Can Bishop Carroll avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
