Basketball Recap: Emery Comes Up Short

If Emery was riding high fresh off their 78-32 takedown of Providence Hall last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Emery Spartans took a 55-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the American Leadership Academy Eagles on Wednesday. While the Spartans didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eagles 16-11 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Emery still got an impressive performance from Scott Johansen, who posted ten points along with seven steals and six rebounds. With that strong performance, Johansen is now averaging an impressive 3 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Frandsen, who put up 14 points and five rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead American Leadership Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaxon Hunter, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 16 points. The matchup was Hunter's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Kannon Huntsman was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 13 boards.

Emery dropped their record down to 1-3 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for American Leadership Academy, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Emery wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-42 defeat against Panguitch on the 7th. As for American Leadership Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-47 loss against Salem Hills on the 6th.
