The Southport Cardinals will head out on the road to take on the Pike Red Devils at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Southport took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-2 win over Terre Haute South Vigo. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Nick Godsey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Robert Ludlow, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Pablo Rendon was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pike). They put the hurt on Beech Grove with a sharp 15-5 victory on Friday. The Red Devils haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Lincoln Sigmund was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rory Weaver, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Pike always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beech Grove only posted an OBP of .435.
Pike's record now sits at 4-1. As for Southport, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Southport has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pike struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Southport took their victory against Pike when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0 score. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
