Morningside Academy strolled past Port St. Lucie with points to spare, taking the game 55-37. Given Morningside Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 176th, while Port St. Lucie is ranked 530th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Morningside Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Giuliana Bonasera out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 rebounds. Bonasera has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmilina Miller, who scored 14 points along with 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
Morningside Academy's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Port St. Lucie, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morningside Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Trinity Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on December 11th. Hopefully Trinity Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. As for Port St. Lucie, they will head out on the road to face off against Melbourne Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Melbourne Central Catholic will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
