The Durand Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight defeat. They were dealt a 80-46 defeat at the hands of Pecatonica. Durand was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 53-22.
When it comes to explaining why Durand lost, one person who can't be blamed is Caden Barthel. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Barthel scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Folk, who scored 12 points.
Durand's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Pecatonica, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Durand won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. As for Pecatonica, they will play host again and welcome the Indians, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dakota will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 444th, while the Indians are ranked 95th).
