The Clay City Eels will head out to face off against the Cloverdale Clovers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Clay City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Clay City and Owen Valley, and Owen Valley kept the tradition alive. The Eels took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots on Thursday.
Karlee Smith made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kambryn Rhodes, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Cloverdale hadn't done well against Greencastle recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Clovers put the hurt on the Tiger Cubs with a sharp 16-6 victory. The Clovers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Callee Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Sarah Nichols was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Norah Frye was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Cloverdale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Clay City's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-6. As for Cloverdale, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-8.
Cloverdale's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Clay City has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Cloverdale, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Clay City's sizable advantage in that area, the Clovers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Clay City skirted past Cloverdale 2-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Will the Eels repeat their success, or do the Clovers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
