The Brownstown Central Braves will face off against the Floyd Central Highlanders at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Brownstown Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Brownstown Central had taken Indian Creek down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. Brownstown Central took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Indian Creek. That's two games in a row now that Brownstown Central has lost by exactly four runs.
Shyla Steele was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brownstown Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Justice, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Floyd Central entered their tilt with Columbus North on Wednesday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Bull Dogs. The Highlanders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Emmy Miller made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elise Coleman, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kiersten Fiedler, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Floyd Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in six consecutive matches.
Floyd Central's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Brownstown Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Brownstown Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Floyd Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Brownstown Central might still be hurting after the 9-1 defeat they got from Floyd Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Braves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
