Basketball Game Preview: Valor Christian Eagles vs. Smoky Hill Buffaloes

Valor Christian is 1-6 against Smoky Hill since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Valor Christian Eagles will host the Smoky Hill Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Valor Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Valor Christian is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Boulder Creek, who was ranked fifth in their home state at the time (Valor Christian was ranked eighth). Valor Christian fell 77-70 to Boulder Creek on Saturday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (69), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Valor Christian might have lost, but man, Cole Scherer was a machine: he went 7 of 12 from beyond the arc on his way to 34 points along with seven assists and six boards. The matchup was Scherer's 14th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Wynja, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Smoky Hill ended up a good deal behind Lone Peak on Saturday and lost 79-60. The Buffaloes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Smoky Hill now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Valor Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.

Valor Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Smoky Hill in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 67-56. Will Valor Christian repeat their success, or does Smoky Hill have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
