Porterville (Calif.) jumped out to an early lead against Tulare Western (Tulare, Calif.) and never looked back on the way to a 47-0 victory on Saturday.
The Panthers scored 19 points in the first quarter. Porterville scored on a touchdown pass by
Dennis Chester to
Tyler Haugen, a
Juan Cordova touchdown run and a touchdown run by Cordova.
After taking the lead on a Chester touchdown pass to Haugen in the first quarter, PHS led 33-0 at the half.
The Panthers expanded their lead to 40 points entering the fourth quarter. Porterville's lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown run by
Jordan Duran.
Chester was the top performer for PHS. The junior quarterback threw three touchdowns.
Coming into the game the Panthers had allowed 26.3 points per game this year.
When the two teams played each other last season, Porterville came away with a 36-16 victory.
The win was a nice bounce back for PHS, which lost to Mission Oak last week, 20-14.
Porterville (3-4) goes up against Tulare Union in a East Yosemite game matchup next week, while Tulare Western (0-7) locks horns with Mission Oak also in a East Yosemite game.
